Collection: Jiří Georg Dokoupil

Jiří Georg Dokoupil (b. 1954, Krnov) emerged in the early 1980s as part of the Mülheimer Freiheit group in Cologne — one of the key nodes of the Junge Wilde / Neo-Expressionist moment in West German painting. Restlessly experimental, Dokoupil resisted stabilisation within any single style or procedure, moving across surfaces, techniques, and registers with deliberate instability. His work circulated widely through the Cologne-centred art system of the 1980s, with Paul Maenz as a central point of distribution and framing.

The New Rare holds exhibition catalogues, artist books, and printed ephemera from this period — documents that functioned as instruments of reputation and placement as much as records of work.
