Jeremy Deller

Jeremy Deller (born 1966) is a British artist whose practice encompasses performance, collaboration, publishing and social history, often working with communities, subcultures and collective memory as both subject and medium. His project Acid Brass (1997), which set the Williams Fairey Brass Band to perform acid-house anthems, and The Battle of Orgreave (2001), a restaging of the 1984 miners’ strike confrontation, established him as a central figure in socially engaged British art of the 1990s and 2000s. He represented Britain at the Venice Biennale in 2013 and was awarded the Turner Prize in 2004.
