Collection: Jack Spade
Jack Spade is the menswear and accessories brand founded by Andy Spade in New York in 1999. Andy Spade, husband of Kate Spade, developed a practice of placing the Jack Spade name onto existing businesses and spaces he did not own — barbershops, bars and other commercial environments — describing the activity as a “commercial readymade” in conscious reference to Marcel Duchamp. The gesture extended to Bald Ego magazine, where the Jack Spade name replaced the Bald Ego masthead for one issue, c. 2004, with the coverline “Bald Ego sells out!” The brand operated at the intersection of design, commerce and appropriation art.
