Ilona Granet (born 1946) is an American artist and activist based in New York whose work since the 1980s has used the visual language of public signage, street furniture and municipal communication to address questions of gender, power and public space. Her sign-based works — produced in the form of official-looking street signs — appropriate the authoritative visual codes of urban regulation to deliver feminist and political messages. She was a participant in the early 1980s New York activist art scene and her work appeared in the context of groups and publications associated with feminist and AIDS activist culture. Granet contributed to The Power of the City / The City of Power, Whitney Museum of American Art, 1992.
