Collection: Hélio Oiticica

Hélio Oiticica (1937–1980) was a Brazilian artist whose practice moved from geometric abstraction through participatory installation, performance and environmental work. Associated with the Neo-Concrete movement and later with Tropicalism, he developed a body of work that dissolved the boundaries between art object, body and social space. His Parangolé capes, Penetráveis environments and Bólides boxes remain among the most radical propositions in postwar art.

The objects gathered here are printed ephemera relating to Oiticica’s exhibition history: catalogues, invitation cards and printed matter issued for presentations of his work in Brazil, Europe and the United States. Each piece records a specific institutional moment and the printed form through which his practice entered public circulation.
