Collection: Fred Tomaselli

Fred Tomaselli (born 1956) is an American artist based in Brooklyn whose paintings embed organic materials — leaves, pills, insects and other found matter — within layers of resin on wood panel, producing dense, optically complex surfaces that draw on psychedelic culture, pattern painting and natural history illustration. Associated with the Pictures Generation’s engagement with representation and the image, his work was the subject of major surveys at the Brooklyn Museum and the Frye Art Museum. Tomaselli has contributed to Bald Ego and other downtown New York publications, and his work is held in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
