Elisabeth Frink

Elisabeth Frink (1930–1993) was a British sculptor and printmaker whose work centred on the human figure, the male body and animals, rendered in a distinctive rough-surfaced bronze that combined vulnerability with physical force. Associated with the postwar generation of British sculptors that included Reg Butler and Lynn Chadwick, her practice resisted abstraction in favour of an insistent figuration rooted in mortality, power and the natural world. She was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1982 and represented Britain at the Venice Biennale in 1952.
