Elias Khoury (born 1948) is a Lebanese novelist, playwright and literary critic whose fiction has addressed the Palestinian experience and the Lebanese civil war with formal and political complexity. His novels include Gate of the Sun (Bab al-Shams, 1998), widely regarded as a landmark of Arabic literature, and Yalo (2002). Khoury was editor-in-chief of the cultural supplement of the Lebanese newspaper An-Nahar and has been a visiting professor at New York University. His work has been translated into numerous languages and he received the Palestine Prize for Culture in 2005.
