Collection: Dan Colen

Dan Colen (b. 1979, Leonia, New Jersey) is an artist whose practice has moved between painting, sculpture, installation, and performance. Associated with a generation of New York artists who emerged in the early 2000s, his early work engaged with abject materials — chewing gum, bird droppings, graffiti — and the mythology of downtown culture. His later practice shifted toward process-based painting, including works using oil, pigment, and atmospheric imagery that draw on mass-cultural sources including Disney’s Fantasia.

Colen has exhibited at Gagosian Gallery; Peres Projects, Berlin; The Greenberg Gallery, St. Louis; and major institutions internationally.

This collection gathers gallery announcement cards, exhibition invitations, and printed matter relating to Colen’s practice.
