Chryssa Vardea-Mavromichali (1933–2013), known professionally as Chryssa, was a Greek-American artist whose sculptures combined neon tubing, aluminium, and commercial typography into complex luminous structures. Working in New York from the late 1950s, she drew on the visual language of Times Square signage and mass-produced lettering to produce work that anticipated both Pop Art and Light and Space practice. She participated in 6 Artists, 6 Exhibitions at the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, in 1968, and exhibited at the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Guggenheim Museum during the same period.
