Collection: Christian Boltanski

Christian Boltanski (1944–2021) was a French artist whose installations, photographs, and archival works explored memory, loss, childhood, and the traces left by anonymous lives. Drawing on found photographs, clothing, and bureaucratic documents, his practice transformed personal and collective archives into monuments to absence and mortality. Associated with Arte Povera and Conceptual Art in its use of humble materials and archival logic, Boltanski represented France at the Venice Biennale in 2011 and received the Praemium Imperiale in 2006. His work entered major museum collections internationally, including the Centre Pompidou, Paris, and the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
