Collection: Benjamin Patterson
Benjamin Patterson (1934–2016) was an American Fluxus artist, double-bassist and composer who was among the founding participants of the Fluxus movement in the early 1960s. Born in Pittsburgh, Patterson moved to Europe in the late 1950s and became involved with the circle around George Maciunas and the early Fluxus festivals in Wiesbaden and Copenhagen. His scores and performances combined music, everyday objects and instruction-based actions in ways central to the development of Fluxus as a practice. A retrospective of his work was held at the Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt in 2015, and his archive is held at the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
