Collection: Alexis Smith

Alexis Smith (born 1949) is an American artist based in Los Angeles whose assemblages, collages and large-scale installations combine found objects, text fragments, photographs and popular cultural imagery to construct layered narratives drawn from film noir, literature and American mythology. Associated with the California conceptual and feminist art scenes of the 1970s, she was included in the Whitney Biennial and has exhibited widely in the United States and Europe. Her large-scale installation Snake Path was permanently installed at the University of California San Diego in 1992.
