Alain Paiement

Alain Paiement (born 1960) is a Canadian artist based in Montréal whose practice centres on the relationship between photography, architecture and spatial representation. Working primarily through large-format photographic installations and composite images assembled from multiple exposures, Paiement constructs panoramic and spatial records of buildings, interiors and urban environments that question conventions of perspective and embodied viewpoint. His work has been exhibited at major Canadian institutions and internationally, and he is a professor at the Université du Québec à Montréal. He contributed to The Power of the City / The City of Power (Whitney ISP Papers No. 1, 1992).
