Collection: Adam Chodzko

Adam Chodzko (born 1965, London) is a British artist whose practice spans photography, video, installation and text, and is consistently concerned with hidden social structures, collective belief systems and the possibility of unsanctioned communication between strangers. A graduate of Goldsmiths College, London, he emerged in the early 1990s alongside the generation of artists associated with the YBA milieu, participating in early group exhibitions including Instructions at Gio’ Marconi, Milan, in 1992. His best-known early works include God Look-Alike Contest (1992–93), in which he placed a classified advertisement seeking individuals who resembled the popular image of God, and Better Out Than In (1996), a project involving the discreet redistribution of flyers in club toilets. His subsequent practice has continued to explore distributed authorship, indirect participation and the latent organisational potential within everyday social spaces. He has exhibited widely in Europe and internationally, with institutional presentations including Tate Britain and the British Art Show.
