Julian Opie (born 1958) is a British artist whose work moves between sculpture, painting, print, and digital media, consistently exploring the conventions of representation and the graphic reduction of the human figure. His early fabricated steel and painted objects, shown at The Sculpture Show at the Hayward Gallery in 1983 and in subsequent Lisson Gallery exhibitions, established him within the New British Sculpture generation. He is widely known for his distinctive simplified portrait style and has exhibited at major institutions internationally.
