Julia Kristeva (born 1941) is a Bulgarian-French philosopher, psychoanalyst, and literary theorist whose concepts of intertextuality, the semiotic, and abjection have been foundational for feminist theory, cultural criticism, and art history since the 1970s. Her book Powers of Horror: An Essay on Abjection (1980) became a key reference for artists and critics engaging with the body, disgust, and the limits of subjectivity. She has been a professor at the Université Paris Diderot and a practising psychoanalyst, and her work has shaped discourse across literature, visual art, and political theory.
