Collection: Bruce Conner

Bruce Conner (1933–2008) was an American artist whose assemblages, films, drawings, and photographs made him one of the most formally inventive and culturally prescient figures of postwar American art. Working in San Francisco from the late 1950s, he produced densely layered assemblages of nylon, wax, and found objects alongside experimental films—including A MOVIE (1958) and CROSSROADS (1976)—that pioneered the use of found footage and influenced generations of filmmakers and video artists. A major retrospective was organised by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in 2016.
