Condition: Very good. Light handling, faint surface marks and minor edge wear, with a small mark near the lower-right margin.
Leonard made the photographs gathered in Aerials during the mid-to-late 1980s, looking at landscape and infrastructure from aircraft windows. The elevated viewpoint carries the visual language of mapping, surveillance and aerial reconnaissance, but Leonard leaves the conditions of production visible: the edge of the negative, reflections in the window, dust, scratches and the position of the camera. The exhibition was her first at Hauser & Wirth’s London gallery.
The invitation reproduces two nearly consecutive views of the same cloud formation. Difference is measured through movement: the aircraft advances, the camera shifts and the landscape refuses to remain fixed. An image made from above is returned to hand-held scale, while the reverse supplies the information required to place it — artist, title, date, medium, dimensions, gallery, city and duration.
