Published in connection with P.P.O.W’s 2012 ADAA Art Show presentation, Fleshing out the Grid, which brought Wojnarowicz and Reynolds together under one archival and display structure. The publication is listed by EDcat as an artists’ book.

Wojnarowicz’s Arthur Rimbaud in New York began in 1978–79, using a paper Rimbaud mask placed onto bodies moving through New York’s streets, subways, piers, and marginal spaces. First exhibited as artwork at P.P.O.W in 1990 and later published as a set of 44 photographs in 2004. Reynolds’s Survival AIDS developed from his long-term practice around HIV/AIDS, performance, newspaper archives, blood spots, mummification, and photo-weavings — a project spanning two decades of work.

Within The New Rare register, this is not simply a booklet about two artists. It is a small printed relay between image, grief, activism, gallery representation, fair display, and archive. Wojnarowicz’s masked Rimbaud becomes a portable figure of displacement and refusal. Reynolds’s newspaper grids turn public record into bodily evidence. The publication compresses both into a handled, saleable, collectable support: a document made for circulation, now reclassified as object.
