The cover was designed by Richard Smith at the moment of his 1967 São Paulo Biennial Grand Prize — the year after he represented Britain at Venice. Smith occupies the cover not as a reproduced painting but as a commissioned graphic object: the magazine surface becomes a site of production rather than documentation.

Contents include: Calder’s Fables, The Shape and the Sound, The Fifth Paris Biennale, Technological Arcadia, John Moores Liverpool, Frank Brangwyn Centenary, Erotic Erethisms, Czech-Mates, reviews, books, London gallery guide, and international art-world advertising. The back cover carries an advertisement for Eduardo Paolozzi, First Sculpture Prize, Carnegie International Pittsburgh 1967, at Pace Gallery New York and Hanover Gallery London.

This issue is less a neutral magazine than a portable exhibition system. Smith occupies the cover; Calder is re-entered through reproduction; Paolozzi appears through the back-page gallery advertisement. The magazine carries artists as image, text, review, prize, advert, and commodity at once. A monthly printed object becomes a small administrative machine for assigning visibility.

Condition: Good vintage condition with visible handling wear, creasing, rubbing, edge wear, corner bends, small tears and chips, age toning, and wear to wrappers and spine. The marks are part of the object’s circulation history.
