Museum postcard, Richard Prince, Spiritual America. Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, 2007. Offset-printed on card stock, 15.2 × 10.8 cm. Colour image to recto; printed caption, barcode, Guggenheim Museum logo, and postal layout to verso. Reproduces Continuation, 2004–05, fiberglass, polyester resin, acrylic and wood, 44 × 69⁵⁄₈ × 82½ inches. Collection of the artist; courtesy Gladstone Gallery, New York.

Produced in connection with Prince’s major Guggenheim exhibition Spiritual America, the postcard carries one of his recurring American subjects: the car body as object, surface, commodity, and cultural fragment.

By 2007, Prince’s practice had already moved through photography, jokes, cowboys, nurses, books, cars, and advertising. The Guggenheim exhibition placed those bodies of work inside a major institutional frame, turning a career built from borrowed images and commercial language back into museum history.

This postcard belongs to that institutional circulation. It is not an editioned artwork, but a printed museum object issued at the moment of exhibition. The car hood moves from industrial form to sculpture, from sculpture to institutional image, from museum shop object to surviving document. A small object, but exact in its position: Prince, Guggenheim, 2007, and the afterlife of American commodity imagery in print.

Condition: Very good. Light handling wear, minor surface marks, and faint age toning consistent with museum postcard ephemera. Ships flat with protective backing; international shipping available.
