Condition: good vintage condition; the laminated wrappers show general rubbing, scuffing and surface marks, with light wear and small areas of loss at the edges and corners, most notably at the lower rear corner. Internally clean, with the binding sound.
Published in connection with the exhibition at Camden Arts Centre, London, 7 January–6 March 1994. The publication brings together Ad Reinhardt, Joseph Kosuth and Félix González-Torres across three generations of American art. Reinhardt’s paintings and critical writings are placed alongside Kosuth’s investigations into language, meaning and context, followed by González-Torres’s paper stacks, candy works, installations and billboards.
Rather than describing a straightforward line of influence, the publication records how a conceptual position is repeated, revised and transferred between artists. The book is particularly significant for its early presentation of González-Torres within this historical sequence. Works designed to be removed, replenished, reproduced or dispersed are returned to the fixed structure of the page. The publication becomes another support through which these temporary and distributable works continue to circulate.
