Original large-format exhibition invitation for Michel Majerus’s first solo exhibition in Los Angeles. Colour offset printing on card stock, 24 × 16 cm. The exhibition brought together nine paintings made between 1996 and 2002.

Condition: Very good. Light handling and surface marks, minor edge and corner wear, with faint rubbing and small marks to the typographic side.

Majerus combined painting with the visual material already moving through contemporary life: advertising, product packaging, logos, video games, cartoons, music and earlier art. Born in Luxembourg and based in Berlin, he developed this language across paintings and large-scale installations before his death in 2002 at the age of thirty-five.

The invitation reproduces a section of overdose, a monumental fifteen-panel acrylic painting measuring 480 × 700 cm. Its accumulated imagery includes detergent packaging, an ice-cream wrapper, a club flyer and Woody from Toy Story.

A painting assembled from material designed for rapid recognition is reduced to a portable announcement. Packaging, entertainment and commercial graphics enter the gallery, then leave again as printed distribution.
