Condition: Good. Overall age toning, horizontal creasing, wear along the two original folds, minor edge loss and handling marks consistent with a paper object more than a century old.

Chabas moved from an academically trained, figurative practice towards Symbolist landscapes shaped by contemplation, spiritualism and an increasingly simplified visual language. His paintings were regularly acquired by the French state between 1907 and 1934, often under titles such as Sérénité, Contemplation and Calme. By the early 1920s, landscape had become less a description of place than a support for inner and cosmic experience.

The invitation divides that position across three panels. One grants entry to the opening and the full duration of the exhibition; the other two carry Kahn’s text, moving the object beyond announcement and into criticism. The exhibition survives here as image, schedule, admission document and essay — folded into a single circulating sheet. A later Chabas exhibition catalogue preserved by the Frick Art Reference Library likewise records Kahn as the accompanying essayist.
