Reprint edition with an afterword by Cynthia Carr, published by Serpent’s Tail, London and New York, 2006. Cover photograph by Jill Posner. Illustrated softcover; 179 pages; 13 × 19.5 cm. ISBN 1-85242-485-0.
Condition: good, visibly handled; rubbing and surface marking to wrappers, creasing across the front cover, edge and corner wear, and abrasion from a removed label over the lower rear-cover credits. Interior condition not confirmed.
First collected in 1997, Bodies of Work brings together Acker’s writing on art, cinema, politics, bodybuilding, science fiction, copyright and the city. This 2006 edition adds Cynthia Carr’s afterword, returning the essays to circulation nine years after Acker’s death.
The earlier pink paperback presented Acker as a living author speaking across disciplines. This reissue substitutes a blue plaid surface, enlarged portrait and gothic title treatment. The text remains, but its framing has changed: an active body of writing becomes a posthumous body of work.
