Printed postcard with photographic reproduction to recto; printed bilingual artwork details to verso; handwritten New Year greeting, postal stamp, address, and Paris cancellation mark dated 10 January 1972.
16 × 22 cm

Condition: good vintage condition. Surface rubbing and scuffing to image side, light creasing, softened corners, age toning, postal handling marks, and handwritten inscription. The wear records circulation, storage, and retention.

Issued by Éditions Georges Visat / Galerie Suzanne Visat, this card reproduces Bellmer’s 1971 bronze Les mains immobiles, a late work that translates his fragmented Surrealist body-language into polished, cast sculptural form. Bellmer, best known for his disturbing doll constructions and erotic anatomical distortions, remained closely tied to Surrealist publishing networks in Paris; Visat was one of the important print and edition figures around that milieu.

This copy is stronger than a clean unused card. It has passed through the postal system, been addressed, written on, stamped, and retained. The gallery announcement becomes a social document; the reproduction becomes an object of transfer. Image, greeting, address, date, and postal mark hold the work in circulation.
