Elisabetta Benassi — The Wind from Nowhere, Exhibition Invitation, Peter Freeman Inc., Paris, 2026

Issued for Elisabetta Benassi's first solo exhibition at Peter Freeman, Inc.'s Paris location — 7 Rue de Montpensier, 75001 — and her second with the gallery, running from 5 June to 25 July 2026. The exhibition took its title from J. G. Ballard's first novel and brought together an inverted 1940s rowboat, an inactive marine engine, navigation objects and books pierced by burned oars: objects of movement and orientation separated from their expected use.

The invitation reproduces a visibly folded map of the Arctic Ocean. Its creases belong to the photographed object rather than the card itself — a record of folding transferred onto a flat printed support. On the reverse, the image is reduced to artist, title, address and dates. A map removed from navigation and placed back into circulation as announcement.

Benassi's work frequently draws upon archaeology, machinery and historical material to examine how the past is preserved, displaced and made operational in the present. Before this exhibition she had presented solo projects at MACRO in Rome, Museo Nazionale Romano, Collezione Maramotti and Fondazione Merz, and participated in the 2011, 2013 and 2015 Venice Biennales.
