The original work was executed in 1987 as a large gelatin silver photograph held within the artist’s frame. Its field of repeated eyes is interrupted by six red text panels, distributing the sentence across the image rather than presenting it as a single caption.
Kruger developed this direct combination of found imagery and language after working in magazine design, using pronouns and short commands to expose how mass media structures authority, identity and desire. Her work has repeatedly moved beyond the gallery through posters, publications, shopping bags, billboards and other widely distributed formats.
This later Fotofolio issue returns the work to mass circulation. A photographic work about looking becomes a postcard addressed to an absent recipient; the request for information travels while the sender and receiver remain unspecified.
Securely packed; tracked UK and international shipping available.
