Collection: Wolf Kahlen

Wolf Kahlen (born 1940, Aachen) is a German artist and one of the early figures in European video art. Working across film, video, photography, performance and installation since the late 1960s, his practice consistently tests the boundaries of self-image, identity and medial perception. He co-initiated the Video Forum at the Neuer Berliner Kunstverein and later founded Ruine der Künste, an artist-run space and edition imprint in Berlin. His photographic work Selbstversuch (1969) and the long-running retrospective project Bilder (k)einer Ausstellung (2000–2003) are among the most sustained self-examinations in postwar German art.
