Collection: Werner Berges
Werner Berges (b. 1941, Rees) emerged from the West German Pop milieu of the 1960s, working primarily with the female figure as it appeared in mass-media advertising. His practice involved lifting images directly from commercial sources — fashion photography, swimwear catalogues, cosmetics campaigns — and translating them through successive reductions into paintings, cut-out silhouettes and sculptural objects. The process made the mechanism of image-making visible: woman as advertisement, advertisement as outline, outline as form.
