Collection: Walter Pfeiffer

Walter Pfeiffer (born 1946) is a Swiss photographer whose pictures of young men, shot with an intimacy at once casual and erotic, circulated through underground and independent publishing from the 1970s onward. His work, largely outside commercial fashion channels for much of his career, reached a wider audience through his relationship with BUTT Magazine and through retrospective publication by Nieves and other small presses. Pfeiffer's photographs are characterised by natural light, domestic interiors and a quality of mutual ease between photographer and subject that distinguishes them from contemporary fashion work. His historical contribution to gay image-making was the subject of increased critical attention in the 2000s and 2010s.
