Voss

Jan Voss (born 1936, Hamburg) is a German-French painter and printmaker who has lived and worked in Paris since the 1960s. His work is characterised by dense, labyrinthine mark-making, accumulative drawing, and a visual language that sits between writing, mapping, and abstraction.

Associated with Galerie Bama, Paris, Voss exhibited widely in France and Germany from the 1970s onwards, and his work entered major public and private collections across Europe. His paintings resist easy categorisation — part sign system, part landscape, part visual notation — accumulating marks into surfaces that reward sustained attention.
