Collection: Vince Aletti

Vince Aletti (born 1945) is an American writer, editor and photography critic whose career spans more than five decades of engagement with popular music, photography and queer culture. He began writing about disco and soul for Rolling Stone in the early 1970s, producing some of the earliest critical writing on those forms, and subsequently became one of the most respected photography critics in the United States through his long association with The Village Voice and The New Yorker. Aletti's collecting practice — he has assembled one of the largest private collections of vernacular photography in America — and his critical writing on photography made him a significant figure in both the photography and queer cultural worlds documented in BUTT Magazine.
