Slava Mogutin (born 1974) is a Russian-born artist, writer and photographer based in New York whose work addresses queer identity, violence, sexuality and the body through photography, text, video and installation. He was the first person to receive refugee status in the United States on grounds of sexual orientation and homophobic persecution in Russia. His photographs, published in BUTT Magazine and other independent titles, are direct, physically unguarded images of gay men and queer social space in New York. Mogutin has exhibited internationally and his work is held in institutional collections including the Kinsey Institute. He received a LAMBDA Literary Award and his monographs have been published by Glitterati and other imprints.
