Collection: Shaun Leonardo
Shaun Leonardo is a Brooklyn-based artist whose practice spans performance, drawing, installation and community engagement, addressing questions of masculinity, race, the body, violence and the criminal justice system. His work examines how Black and brown men are socialised into particular performances of masculinity and how those performances intersect with systems of policing, incarceration and institutional power. Leonardo has exhibited widely across New York and internationally, and has developed sustained community-based projects working with incarcerated individuals and at-risk youth. His institutional profile grew significantly through the 2010s and 2020s, with major presentations at the Guggenheim Museum and elsewhere. He was included in the S/O section of Know Who You Are at Every Age at the Bronx River Art Center in 2014, curated by Q_Raider and BDGRMMR.
