Collection: Sean Landers

Sean Landers (born 1962) is an American artist whose paintings, drawings and text-based works centre on an extended, self-implicating examination of ambition, failure, desire and the performance of artistic identity. Working across figuration, language and autobiography, his practice resists the separation of lived experience from artistic production. Associated with the New York gallery scene of the early 1990s — Andrea Rosen Gallery, and internationally with Jennifer Flay in Paris and Esther Schipper in Cologne — Landers represented the United States at the Aperto section of the 1993 Venice Biennale. His publication [sic] (Publicsfear Press, 1993; Riverhead Books, 1995) remains a key document of the period.
