Collection: Philippe Parreno

Philippe Parreno (born 1964) is a French-Algerian artist whose practice operates across film, installation, performance and exhibition-making to question the conditions under which an artwork is experienced in time. Working frequently in collaboration — most notably with Pierre Huyghe, with whom he co-authored the character Ann Lee, purchased from a Japanese manga agency and subsequently released from commercial use — Parreno has consistently treated the exhibition itself as a medium, choreographing light, sound, image and duration into total environments that unfold like scripts. His films and installations have been presented at the Palais de Tokyo, the Tate Modern Turbine Hall and the Park Avenue Armory, among others. Parreno’s work sits at the intersection of cinema, theatre and conceptual art, proposing the artwork as an event rather than an object.
