Peter Greenaway (born 1942, United Kingdom) is a British filmmaker, painter and installation artist whose work is distinguished by its formal rigour, elaborate visual composition and sustained engagement with art history, architecture and the body. His films include The Draughtsman’s Contract (1982), A Zed and Two Noughts (1985) and The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover (1989). Greenaway has consistently worked across film, gallery installation and opera, and participated in Spellbound: Art and Film at the Hayward Gallery, London, in 1996.
