Collection: Michael Farion

Michael Farion is a Canadian designer commissioned to design a perspex bookcase for the Bibliomania exhibition (1998–1999). Though the bookcase was not fabricated due to budget constraints, his detailed architectural drawings — reproduced in the exhibition catalogue — extend the project into the design of how knowledge might be stored, displayed, and circulated.

Farion's design intention, as described in the catalogue, drew on the De Stijl and Bauhaus traditions, with influences including Carl Andre, Donald Judd, and Sol LeWitt. The bookcase was conceived to disappear within its environment — unobtrusive, structural, and subordinate to the books it would hold.

Publications gathered here document projects in which Farion's work appears. Original period items.
