Dotty Attie (born 1938) is an American artist whose meticulously painted small-scale works appropriate and fragment Old Master paintings, inserting text to create unsettling narratives that expose the violence, sexuality and power dynamics concealed within canonical Western art. A founding member of the feminist cooperative gallery AIR in New York in 1972, her practice has consistently interrogated the relationship between image, language and desire. She has exhibited widely in the United States and Europe.
