Collection: Carrie Moyer

Carrie Moyer (born 1960) is a New York-based painter and activist whose practice engages with abstraction, queer identity, feminist politics and the history of painting. Her large-scale canvases combine poured, sprayed and brushed acrylic paint with glitter and other materials to produce works of vivid chromatic intensity that draw on the traditions of abstract expressionism and colour field painting while inflecting them with queer and feminist sensibilities. Moyer co-founded the public art project Dyke Action Machine! (DAM!) in 1991, producing agitprop posters that appropriated advertising imagery to address lesbian visibility and LGBTQ+ rights. She has exhibited widely in major institutions across the United States and her work is held in significant public collections. She was included in the S/O section of Know Who You Are at Every Age at the Bronx River Art Center in 2014, curated by Q_Raider and BDGRMMR.
