Cady Noland (born 1956) is an American artist whose work engages with American violence, celebrity culture, consumer capitalism and institutional power. Working across sculpture, installation and printed matter, she incorporates found objects — beer cans, flags, barricades, silkscreened celebrity images — to construct environments that expose the machinery of spectacle and control. Her practice resists easy categorisation between Minimalism, institutional critique and a distinctly American vernacular of failure and aggression. She showed at White Columns in 1988, the Venice Biennale in 1990, the Whitney Biennial in 1991 and Documenta IX in 1992.
