Bernard Schultze (1915–2005, Schneidemühl) was a German painter and assemblage artist associated with the Informel movement and among the founding members of the Quadriga group in Frankfurt. His work is characterised by densely layered paint surfaces, fantastical figuration and the development of his Migofs — sprawling, hybrid creature-forms that extend from canvas into three-dimensional assemblage. One of the most distinctive voices in postwar German art, his practice resists easy categorisation between abstraction, Surrealism and material experimentation.
