Collection: Allen Jones
Allen Jones (b. 1937, Southampton) is a British painter and sculptor central to the British Pop Art movement. His work is characterised by bold colour, erotic figuration and the appropriation of commercial imagery, particularly the stylised female form drawn from fashion illustration and fetish culture. His furniture sculptures of 1969 — life-size female figures used as tables, chairs and hat stands — remain among the most contested objects in postwar British art, provoking debate about the relationship between art, desire and the objectification of women that has only intensified over time.
