Photographed by Erica Van Horn in February 1989, the structure was conceived to house Rückriem’s sculptures while remaining close to the agricultural buildings of its surrounding landscape.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eRückriem’s sculpture is defined by direct procedures: stone is quarried, split, cut, displaced and reassembled while retaining evidence of each operation. Here, that economy extends from the individual sculpture to the building made to contain it. Wall, roof, landscape and storage become part of the same material proposition.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe pamphlet offers no conventional exhibition narrative. Van Horn photographs the building from a sequence of restrained viewpoints, showing its corrugated shell, curved roof, structural supports and position against the distant trees. Architecture is recorded less as a completed monument than as a working arrangement between artist, builder, objects and site.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eCoracle Press, directed by Simon Cutts and Erica Van Horn, developed the Little Critic Pamphlets as a modest publishing form through which criticism, documentation and artists’ work could occupy the same inexpensive support. The series began in the late 1980s and included publications connected to John Bevis, Kay Rosen and Márton Koppány.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eOriginally offered by Coracle for £1 and “available on request,” this is the full-size 1991 first publication, not the half-size digital facsimile issued in 2017.
