From a collection of artist publications retained in their original shrinkwrapped packaging.

The Entertainers was made during Prince’s early Time-Life period and developed from publicity photographs of aspiring singers, actors and models encountered around the cinemas, bars and restaurants of Times Square. Prince softened their focus, increased contrast and introduced saturated colour and graphic elements, returning images designed to secure attention and employment as studies of aspiration, performance and manufactured identity.

The book reproduces the photographic panels alongside related works, advertisements and taped trade clippings. It also includes Prince’s texts The Counterfeit Memory from 1981 and The Lone Ranger, extending the series through memories of adult cinemas, bars, celebrity, childhood heroes and death.

The series is currently included in Helter Skelter: Arthur Jafa and Richard Prince, curated by Nancy Spector at Fondazione Prada’s Ca’ Corner della Regina in Venice, 9 May–23 November 2026.
