The exhibition belongs to a period in which the camera was increasingly used by artists not simply to produce photographs, but to document temporary actions, stage propositions and carry broader artistic ideas. Rosa Esman Gallery returned to the subject with \u003cem\u003ePhotonotations II\u003c\/em\u003e the following year.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eSegal’s image already performs the title: a figure works across an illuminated theatre marquee, interrupting its letters and leaving the message temporarily unreadable.
