Staple-bound, offset-printed; 40 pages; 21.5 × 28 cm. Exhibition dates: 6 February–2 March 1985.

Artists: Frances Barth, Srule Brachman, Rodney Carswell, Richard Dunlap, Barry Goldberg, Allan Graham, Otis Jones, Mel Katz, Charles Magistro, Jim Nickel, Tim Rietenbach, Gregg Renfrow, Elke Solomon, Ted Stamm and Naomi Waksberg.

Condition: good vintage condition; general toning, rubbing and handling marks to wrappers, with shallow creasing, edge wear and a softened upper-right corner. Small pale rectangular mark to the front cover. Binding intact.

Constructures proposed a temporary category for abstraction moving beyond the conventional rectangular support. Edge, perimeter, thickness and silhouette become active parts of the work, placing painting close to relief, construction and sculpture.

Several distinct positions meet within that heading. Ted Stamm, included shortly after his death in 1984, extended serial abstraction into shaped supports, street actions and site-specific activity. Allan Graham moved between painting, language, printed matter and alternative identity, resisting a fixed medium or signature. Otis Jones pursued materially exact painting-objects whose modest supports and physical thickness refused both representation and spectacle.

The catalogue records these practices before they separated into their later histories. Constructures was not an established movement but an attempt to name a shared pressure at the boundary of painting.

The cover carries no reproduction. The exhibition enters circulation first as title and proposition: fifteen artists placed briefly beneath one institutional term.

Securely packed; tracked UK and international shipping available.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0991/5636/1554/files/Barth_Frances._Katz_Mel._Constructures_New_Perimetrics_in_Abstract_Painting._1985.jpg?v=1781246742
