Her \u003cem\u003eUntitled\u003c\/em\u003e paintings of this period, constructed from accumulated circular fragments, established her as a significant figure in the post-Minimalist and Pattern and Decoration movements.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eHer participation in \u003cem\u003ePhotonotations\u003c\/em\u003e (Rosa Esman Gallery, 1976) reflects her engagement with photography as an extension of her broader interest in process, documentation and the politics of representation. A serious car accident in 1979 prompted a shift in her practice towards more explicitly autobiographical and politically engaged work, including the celebrated \u003cem\u003eAutobiography\u003c\/em\u003e series. Rosa Esman Gallery returned to the subject with \u003cem\u003ePhotonotations II\u003c\/em\u003e the following year.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eSegal’s image already performs the title: a figure works across an illuminated theatre marquee, interrupting its letters and leaving the message temporarily unreadable.
